One of the best things about Comedy Central is the diversity found within its programming. From animated TV shows such as “South Park”, to the comedic news reporting formats of shows like “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “The Colbert Report”, there’s something for everyone, regardless of how zany or obscure. “Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire” is no different, and for those of the sword and sorcery style fantasy genre, this comedic series could be just what you’ve been waiting for.
Making its series premier this last April on Comedy Central (DirecTV channel 249, or channel 1249 for the handy Video On Demand version), “Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire” is already generating quite a bit of buzz.
Taking place in a medieval fantasy world, this series that is voice narrated by “Saturday Night Live” alumni Chris Parnell. The series follows the bumbling and skittish hero Kröd Mändoon (Sean Maguire), described as being a “thin-skinned and underconfident freedom fighter” as he tries to overthrow the evil crime lord ruler Chancellor Dongalor (Matt Lucas). Kröd and Chancellor Dongalor have been mortal enemies since their days of warrior training and the mutual hatred has escalated and continued to current times.
Kröd has a magical sword that bursts into flame when he is in danger or challenged. He also has his rag-tag band of friend-warriors that include Aneka (India de Beaufort), a pagan warrior whose weapon of choice happens to be her rampant sex drive, Loquasto (Steve Speirs), who plays Kröd’s not so bright servant, and Zezelryck (Kevin Hart), a warlock who has yet to hone his magical skills, who all band together to take down the Chancellor.
If you like comedy, and are even remotely a fan of the fantasy genre, ““Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire” is one of the most original shows on DirecTV, and a definite must-watch.
